Bangla street style
There’s this picture I have from Bangladesh of two friends; young girls, both dressed in matching salwar kameezes with colourful patterns in paisley and flowers. I remember well taking the photo – it was on the side of a road just outside Jessore, a town nearby the Indian border. When I saw the two of them standing there, one holding her arm around the other, they were perfect impersonations of the concept of street style.
Looking through old albums with photos from Bangladesh, it was not long before the pile of images with stylish outfits grew. The word deshi in Bengali is similar to Arabic’s baladi, which means popular and folky, literally “from the country”. This here, true and very nice deshi style!
